Kat Calvin, founder and executive director of voter ID and turnout organization Spread The Vote, has announced the launch of a new PSA campaign #WorkThePolls aimed at inspiring young people to help at the polls. Gabourey Sidibe, John Cameron Mitchell, and Robin Frohardt have confirmed participation.

Kat Calvin, founder and executive director of voter ID and turnout organization Spread The Vote, has announced the launch of a new PSA campaign #WorkThePolls aimed at inspiring young people to help at the polls. Gabourey Sidibe, John Cameron Mitchell, and Robin Frohardt have confirmed participation to lend their talents to the initiative, per an announcement from the organization.

Launching in September, the #WorkThePolls PSAs are being produced by veteran producer Effie T. Brown, CEO of Gamechanger Films, along with Wellington Love, an independent producer and founder of communications agency 15minutes. Sidibe is directing one of the clips. Mitchell is writing another that will be and directed and designed by Guggenheim Fellowship recipient Robin Frohardt. Other talent on the project includes twin sisters JaNeika and JaSheika James (Empire), writer-director Antonio Macia (Anne B. Real), and actor and comedian Erik Rivera (Super White).

“COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted at-risk communities, including older senior citizens,” Calvin said in a statement. “Over 50 percent of poll workers across the country are over 61, so the pandemic’s impact on this population threatens access to voting. #WorkThePolls is ready to recruit America’s new wave of eligible voters to step in and step up for paid employment as poll workers. Many states have already begun these efforts, and Spread The Vote is here to help.”
